LVCF/Redspokes' latest Laos appeal is for the village school in the Tai Lue community village, Ban Nalay where redspokes cyclists are hosted by the villagers for the night in home stays.

In November 2009 after bringing water to Ban Fen and completing a new school we changed our “home stay” village to Ban Nalay:

 

In addition to following a “Community based tourism” policy (see below) redspokes groups have contributed to the village “community centre” and the local school.  

 

 LVCF/Redspokes' latest Laos appeal is for the village school in the  Tai Lue community village, Ban Nalay where redspokes cyclists are hosted by the villagers for the night in home stays. 

 

Headteacher  Mr Chanhda has told us that  replacing the roof on school building is a priority and we’d like to help him achieve this as soon as possible, to ensure he has a positive learning environment for the children.

 

Village profile:

 

Ban Nalay - is a Tai Lue village. Its people settled here more than 3 generations ago. Located on the Oudomxay - Pakbeng road.  Its surrounded by paddy field and only 700 meter walk to NamBeng river.

 

 +feasibility:

 

Mobile network reception has been here since 2008 and electricity has been connected from Oudomxay from 2009, it also has running water.

 

Village still preserve their own culture and way of life and weaving, cotton production always can be seen in the village. They have been trained in basic awareness of tourism such as where they come from, what they like and dislike. Why tourist like to stay in the village rather than GH or hotel, what can they do to generate income from tourism and not abandon village way of life and solidarity of community. CBT, Eco-tourism, .etc..

+Occupation of villager: All of them are farmer, growing rice in wet season also with corn in wet and dry season.

 

redspokes compensate the village for food, Basi, souvenir and accommodation. The “home Stay” is rotated so that all villagers who want can benefit.

 

+ Income that generate from tourism will be divided in to following activity in the village.

 

- Detail break down:

 

- meal,.

- accommodation

- souvenir for visitors

- village saving fund.

 

+condition of releasing village saving fund,;

 

(After having discussed with villagers, village headman and village elders the following condition are applied to the VSF as a rule for releasing VSF to any family that have necessarily to take money from VSF, and village headman and village elder have selected 3 people who will response for the detail of VSF)

 

- If any emergency situation happens in the village, such as sickness, fire, flood of rice fields, shorten of rice in the family, etc.. That have to be approved by village headman and village elder and then repayment back to VSF can be done when thing recovered with interest 4% of money released.

 

-Any activity that can be benefit to whole community and village, village headman and village elders will take that in to consideration of approving VSF.

 

-Village elders and village headman will strictly forbidden on releasing VSF to any personal or private expenses that are regularly in their daily life but with emergency case only.

 

-there will be monthly/quarterly summarize and report from VSF committee to the villagers.
